Purpose

The ICB Bookkeeping to Trial Balance course is one of the required subjects for the ICB Foundation Level programmes. It assumes no prior knowledge. The essential concepts of bookkeeping are presented enabling students to become proficient in all bookkeeping skills required to prepare a trial balance.

Course Content

  • Module 1 Basic introduction to Business, Bookkeeping and Accounting
  • Module 2 Value Added tax (Vat) and source documents
  • Module 3 Recording cash transactions
  • Module 4 Recording credit and sundry transactions
  • Module 5 Inventory systems
  • Module 6 Individual accounts for debtors and creditors, and supplier and general ledger reconciliations
  • Module 7 Bank reconciliations process
  • Module 8 Drafting financial statements

You need the following to study this course.

    • Grade 10 (Std 8), NQF L3 or equivalent
    • No prior accounting knowledge is required
    • You must be at least 16 years old
    • Students have to register separately with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) as well as with Aldes Training Academy
    • Aldes Training Academy assists all students with their ICB registrations, at no extra charge

What you will learn

This skills programme assumes no knowledge of bookkeeping and teaches the student to use the original source documents to prepare the books of account of the business. This includes the subsidiary journals to the general and subsidiary ledgers, trial balance, and the bank and creditors reconciliations.
