#17 Tibetan Hand Painted Monastery Chest 17-18th century Year:17-18th Century This 19th century ritual tableThis is one of a pair of 17 to 18th century hand painted chests. Once kept in a monastery, this beautiful trunk was used to store old and precious manuscripts, thankas not intended for public viewing, small Tibetan rugs and very likely, ritual images, costumes and masks used in religious celebrations throughout the year. A majestic dragon stares from a single medallion in the center. He is surrounded by a repeating design that emulates the pattern of
