事物在特定资源和条件下形成的一些做法，如果从文化传承的角度考虑，事无巨细的保留下来是对传统的保护，但同时当下人做当下事，有了新的资源和条件，做法上做一些调整，以满足实际的需求，也未尝不可。比如过去做中装，面料的门幅比较窄，中式衣服上有一个拼中缝的方式，让不少老衣服留下了这种无意设计的“设计”，很有年代的特征。而我们使用宽幅面料一片成型的话，就可以考虑取消这种方式。在女性束胸的年代，旗袍不太需要胸省，人的体型比较扁平，做旗袍的裁缝也还未汲取西式裁剪的理论，平裁加上归拔，这样的旗袍穿在当时的女子身上实在很美。到了现在，审美的改变，即便平胸的女子也总希望自己有点什么，更别说大多数女子的体型，和旧时代已经不太一样，穿立体的胸衣，用立体的胸省。在拉链流行之前，旗袍用手工盘扣，手工就是那个年代的生产力，但现在拉链很普及也很方便，而手工又缺又贵，便将手工盘扣调整为旗袍设计的一部分，而不一定是必须的，60年代南洋旗袍，港式旗袍所呈现的摩登便是从取消盘扣，用拉链收紧腰围开始。不开肩缝的处理方式，是在那个局限于窄幅面料的年代的巧妙安排，配合归拔，让一件旗袍对应一个女子的身形。归拔过的旗袍，最好不要水洗，而现在不破肩的初衷早已不再。我承认这种不破肩的制作方式非常美妙，但最好留给真正懂得归拔的师傅来定制完成，并成衣一律干洗。民国时期的低开叉也十分优雅，记得以前我们做过几款相对低的开叉，开叉一旦低下去，旗袍就不能太修身，步子迈小的时候就很淑女，但不太适合真实的生活节奏，就没有再做。还有开背，有些改良旗袍即便是侧拉链也会保留后开背，因为开背过的旗袍后腰线会更贴合身体曲线，对于板正的面料，最好有这样的曲线。但我们想保留传统旗袍的不开后背，就会选择软性的面料，这样即便后腰有些堆积，也是松软自然的。
